Five Tips to Making Visiting Teaching Easier

We were going to do these wonderful handouts every month that would be fridge-worthy and worth passing along to your sisters, but do you know what your sisters need even more? Yep, a visit. So instead of cluttering up ours lives with yet one more piece of paper I found some helpful hints on how to make doing our visiting teaching easier.

1) It's often easier if you can schedule each of your visits for the same day. Sure, it's not always possible due to scheduling conflicts, but you can try to do two visits in a day. If your schedule just doesn't match up with the sisters you visit or your companion, let your Visiting Teaching Supervisor or District Leader know so they can try to switch you to a more accommodating route.

2) Try to keep your visits short. It's easy to get chatting and forget the time, but try to keep your visit to around 30 minutes, and no longer than an hour.

3) Schedule your visits for the same time every month. This makes the visits easy to plan for and to remember. You can also try scheduling next months visit while you are visiting with them this month.

4) A reminder call is appreciated, especially if you've made your appointment way in advance as suggested in #3. It's easy to forget in the midst of all we do and it gives your sister a chance to tidy up last minute if needed.

5) Be flexible! If it's just not working out to get a visit in this month, you can call, mail a letter, e-mail or even send a quick facebook message. You can also just drop something by to let her know that you are thinking of her.
